Mersey Delta Blues Band
Thank you for taking the time to read about my band.
My name is Ian Boyle, I live in Bebington, Wirral and I have been playing the blues harmonica for many years mainly playing for fun. In the last three years I have taken the instrument far more seriously and have managed to push the boundaries of the instrument to an extremely advanced level. I have studied and taken lessons from some of the world’s top players.
Eighteen months ago I decided to put together a blues band. I began by going to gigs watching the top blues bands in the Liverpool area – after widening my search checking out bands and attending gigs all over the UK a plan started to form – I felt with the right musicians I could create something “special”.
I began my search for talented musicians with the “Blues feel” who could think out of the box and play as a cohesive musical group. After a few false starts I eventually came up with a fantastic line up of experienced local musicians who have bought into a Harmonica led Blues Band and The Mersey Delta Blues Band was born.
A rock solid bass man (Bri Elmer) along with one of Liverpool’s best drummers (Phil Bernia) ensures our engine room is pumping along with plenty of energy. A Liverpool legend (John Hall) who specialises in blues slide guitar provides that authentic taste of the back-porch blues and our lead guitar/sax player (Neil G) brings his vast experience of playing many styles throughout the UK and as far afield as New York and Shanghai to the sound of the MDBB. Then of course there’s me the wailing honking front man born to play the blues.
But that’s not where it ends. As a harmonica led blues band from time to time other harmonica players turn up at gigs – it’s only good blues etiquette to invite them to join in – if you’ve not heard duelling harmonicas you’re in for a treat – we also have a piano/keyboard player for larger events.
Ok, so that’s the band now how about the music?
We play many of the blues standards with a mix of high energy vocals and powerful musical expression in our own”unique style”. Not all of our numbers are strictly Blues songs (as you will see from the selection from our current set list) but most have their roots set well and truly in the genre. We are also developing a repertoire of our own original songs. The MDBB has wowed audiences to date and will continue to impress and entertain at Blues venues/events in the future.
2017 is an important year for us and we are making every effort to promote the MDBB. We’ve had a very positive reaction from audiences and return gigs/regular spots at a number of venues. The band has also been invited to play at Blues festivals.
So, now that I’ve told you about our band hopefully you would like us to play at your venue/event. The Mersey Delta Blues Band is a local band that would like to play local venues. It is our local area – Merseyside/Wirral/Lancashire/Cheshire – that matter to us.
Keep music live.
